what is the use of Executable test script in advanced tasks?

I want to know the usage of Executable test scripts in Advanced actions. Which extension file should I provide. I have given a .txt file and It has opened the file and closed, that's it. Can anyone provide an example for this?

You can call anything with this, for example a batch file (vbs, shell script, executable, etc) that does stuff, copies some files, runs a functional test tool, opens notepad, etc
