Tunnel mode recording

Why do we use Tunnel mode of recording??
Do we use it only for end-to-end or gateway-to-gateway connection modes where it encrypts the IP header and the payload??
I am new to this Tunnel mode concept.

Tunnel mode recording is a second way to record an application with NeoLoad. It is used when the proxy recording is not possible.

For example,  some native mobile applications are not configured to use  proxy and so you cannot record them in NeoLoad in proxy mode. In that case you can use the tunnel mode recording.

This second mode requires some pre-requisites like administrator rights on NeoLoad machine.

That is to say that tunnel mode is not necessary if you are able to record using proxy mode which is the recommended method.

Can you give any example of such applications which do not support proxy mode of recording?

I do not have specific application names but for example a desktop application which is stand alone application that does not run inside a browser.

If that application is a client-server application using HTTP protocols and If you can't set a proxy for that application then you can use tunnel mode recording.
