Monitoring : how to troubleshout monitoring issue

Dear all,

I need to monitor 6 servers, it seems they are NOT in same network but my infrastrucure team does not answer.
I suspect that because monitoring for 2 servers is OK but not for the 4 other servers.
I am in the same network but I suspect a firewall between my agent and the 4 servers.

How can I prove to the PM that something is different between server 1/2 and 3/4/5/6? I tried telnet servers 1 7200 but it fails for all.

Thanks for your support

You did not mention which type of monitors you are trying to configure. Is it Unix or Windows based?

Are you using a single monitoring agent to monitor your 6 servers?

What kind of error do you get when trying to monitor your 4 servers?

Is it a network error or a permission issue?

I do not see the point to telnet the agent monitoring port here. You should telnet the target ports from your monitoring agent instead.

Hi Nouredine,
it seems my answer is not posted correctly. => 2nd try

1. Thanks for your answer
2. It's windows based
3. I use one monitoing agent and it works for 2 servers but not for 4 other servers, I sus pect a network issue.
To investigate I can connect to all servers by RDP
5. telnet : I thought that that can run telnet myser 7200 to check if the network is ok. I did on working servers but it's not OK any idea ? how can I find what's the blocker
6. Errors is : Failed to connect : The specified machine is offline or unavailable
thx

But what error do you get with the 4 other servers? Is it really a network error? Do you have the detail?

Here are some basic checks to do:

Make sure that there's no firewall started on those machines

Check if the Remot registry service is started on those machines

If they belong to another domain, you may need other credential but in that case the error message should be Access Denied.

  • Error is attached.
  • Remote registry is started
  • credentials I use are the same to connect to to working and non working machines without any issue.
  • firewall : is there a way to check port opened or not by cmd line ?
